CrossFit in Paris

Are you planning your next trip to Paris ? Paris, « la Ville Lumière » ? Your « Lonely Planet » gave you a list of beautiful places to visit : churches, gardens, archways, bridges, fountains. You checked your memory card to take enough pictures of the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Sacré Cœur.
You even memorized some romantic sentences in French… You know, Paris, the romance, french girls, or french guys… like you see in the movies…

Ready ? No… you should also take your favourite jump rope, a pair of CrossFit shoes, and some finger tape. Because, in that beautiful and peaceful garden listed in your travel guide book, and full of flowers and romance, you may find a gang of people doing Burpees, Kettlebell Swings, Box Jumps, Squats and Push-ups.

Yes, CrossFit arrives is in Paris !

Actually, in Paris, the demand for Crossfit came a long way before this opening of an official box. The CrossFit boxes are still not fully operational, but they already gives classes, every day ! Because, Parisians are asking for Crossfit.

I was in Paris last week. Firstly, I visited Reebok CrossFit Louvre, a beautiful place, very smart, although some parts are still under construction (new buildings, next door, are currently under construction too). Reception desk at the entrance, flat screen and all the CrossFit material : Rings, Barbells, Kettlebels, GHD, Racks, etc…
And until the end of the construction, they train mostly outside, in parks, gardens, and streets. The « Skills » part of the Workout of the Day inside, and the « Met-Con » outside.
Reebok CrossFit Louvre is located in the 2nd Arrondissement, just near the Louvre Museum. So it has very respectable neighbours. The culture of Paris is just a kettlebell swing away.

Even though the box is still under construction, it’s already a box, with a real community. Athletes know each other, they are happy to meet at the box. You can really feel that when you spend time in the box as I did. I met a lot of fantastic people, already addicted to CrossFit, even if they started three weeks ago. CrossFit really does work.

Addicted… That’s the word for Paris. My next visit was the box  Crossfit Original Addicts . Let me explain that name : in December 2011, the box « CrossFit France », just outside Paris closed its door leaving the athletes without any place to train. So, they decided to train… in the streets… even though it was winter. But they were « addicted » to CrossFit. you can see that article on BoxRox t here .

So on a very eventful visit to Paris, and the unsteady history of CrossFit there, we can now see it taking hold…and big things will no doubt happen for the people of this amazing city.
