105-Year-Old Julia Hawkins Sets World Record for 100m Sprint

Julia ‘Hurricane’ Hawkins wants to be faster on her next attempt.

Julia Hawkins, known as ‘Hurricane’, has set a new world record for being 105+ years old and running 100-metre. She finished the course in 1:02.95 seconds at the Louisiana Senior Games.

Julia Hawkins is the only woman to establish a 105+ age category World Record in track and field. She managed to run the course at the Louisiana Senior Games this past weekend.

In an interview to the New York Times, Julia Hawkins explained that her training consisted of manoeuvring around her garden.

Contrary to what most people would think, Hawkins only started running when she turned 100 years old and hasn’t stopped since.

”wonderful,” Julia Hawkins said after completing the sprint. “I’m so happy.”

According to local media, Hawkins intends to participate in the Louisiana Senior Games every year. “I’m going to keep running as long as I can. I find it fun and I like doing it.”
