First of all, you need to understand that weight and fat are not the same. You could be losing fat and gaining muscle, which the scale would show that you are actually still weighing the same when in reality you are actually losing fat.

If your weight is the same, or even a bit higher than the week before, but your clothes fit better and you look or feel better, chances are you have not hit a plateau yet. This is one of the reasons why you can’t lose weight because you maybe are losing weight but the scale is not showing.

Let’s assume you’ve been weighing yourself for three or more weeks now and still haven’t seen a change in weight. One of the real reasons why you can’t lose weight, in this case, is that you are not tracking your calories correctly.

Some people just eyeball how many calories they are consuming daily, but forget to add that extra olive oil that went in the salad or that cookie they had right after dinner. These things add up and maybe you are consuming calories that are closer to your maintenance than you anticipated. Get back on the notepad and write down all the calories to see if this is the mistake you are doing.

Lastly, one of the real reasons why you can’t lose weight at the moment is, perhaps, because you already lost quite a lot and your body is getting used to it. Even if you lost just 5 pounds of fat, your body now spends less energy while at rest.
