Top Athletes To Watch Out for During the 2021 CrossFit German Throwdown

Some notable names will be competing this weekend for a chance to earn a qualifying spot for the CrossFit Games.

The CrossFit German Throwdown kicks off on Friday, June 11, and will run through the weekend. The CrossFit Semifinal, hosted virtually because of covid-19 restrictions, will see many Games veterans compete for one of the five CrossFit Games qualifying sports up for grabs.

Each category – male, female and teams – will see 30 competitors tackle six workouts from their respective locations.

Watch out for likely impressive performances from the following athletes.

Female Athletes to Watch at the German Throwdown

Kristin Holte

The 2019 CrossFit Games podium athlete is one of the most consistent in the sport. Having aged into the Masters 35-39 division this year (and won the Open in her division), Kristin will compete for a spot in the Individual division at the CrossFit Games during the German Throwdown.

She finished the 2021 Open in 17th place worldwide and ranked 3rd overall in the European Quarterfinals.

After closely missing out on a spot at Stage 2 of the CrossFit Games in 2020, Kristin revealed she PR’d all her lifts that year and that she keeps getting better, so you can expect big things from her this weekend.

Jacqueline Dahlstrom

Another Norwegian athlete to watch out for, Jacqueline was the first woman to win to Sanctionals outright when they were introduced in the 2019 season.

The 29-year-old finished 4th at the European Quarterfinals this year and currently trains in Mallorca under the supervision of John Singleton alongside powerhouse Gabriela Migala (competing at the Lowlands Throwdown this weekend).

She’s looking to earn her second individual invite to the CrossFit Games.

Katrin Davidsdottir

The two-time CrossFit Games champion needs little introduction. Katrin has been in the Game for years and continues to prove she’s a threat year after year, having most recently finished second at the 2020 CrossFit Games.

Samantha Briggs

Another previous CrossFit Games champion (2013), Sam Briggs will compete for her 10th CrossFit Games appearance.

Even if this weekend doesn’t reap an individual qualification spot, The Engine has already earnt her place in Madison in the Master Women 35-39 division following the Age Group Online Qualifier.

Emma Tall

Emma Tall’s first and only appearance at the CrossFit Games was in 2019, where she finished 31st. The Swedish athlete however is back for the 2021 season looking as strong as ever.

Tall finished 7th overall at the European Semifinals, showing great consistency throughout her workouts, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see her finish high on the leaderboard this weekend.

Male Athletes to Watch at the German Throwdown

Jonne Koski

The Games veteran is a force to be reckoned with and has very high chances of earning a qualifying spot this weekend.

Jonne’s best CrossFit Games finish is 7th, which he earnt last year, being only 10 points away from qualifying to Stage 2 of the CrossFit Games.

Having finished 3rd at the European Quarterfinals, the Finnish athlete is hungry to make one more appearance at the CrossFit Games.

Lazar Đukić

At 25-years-old, Lazar has been crowned Serbia’s National Champion every year since 2017.

Yet to make his CrossFit Games debut – although having qualified to the Games both in 2019 and 2020  – Đukić finished 5th at the Dubai CrossFit Championship in the 2019-2020 season and looked to be on the path to qualifying before the season was put on hold.

Having won Workout 3 and finished 2nd after Workout 2 of the European Quarterfinals, Đukić is back this year to prove he can compete with the big names and probably come out on top.

Lukas Esslinger

A four-time CrossFit Games athlete, Esslinger is another powerhouse competing at the German Throwdown this weekend.

Known for his incredible endurance – he won the Rowing Marathon event at the CrossFit Games – Esslinger’s strength is also incredibly impressive.

Elliot Simmonds

A three-time CrossFit Games athlete and previews team podium athlete, Elliot is another top competitor from the European region.

He had his best CrossFit Open finish this year with a 15th overall place and seems poised to make a return to the Games for 2021.

PD Savage

Fittest Man in Ireland in 2020, PD (short for Patrick Daniel) Savage found his “love for competing again” after the Quarterfinals, following a year of lockdowns and niggles.

Having lost his CrossFit Games qualifying spot last year due to the pandemic, PD Savage still hasn’t given up on competing in Madison as an individual, so we’re sure to see his best at the German Throwdown this weekend.

Giorgos Karavis

Another athlete looking to earn their first ticket to the CrossFit Games, Giorgos Karavis has improved his performances year on year and now heads onto the German Throwdown Semifinal having ranked 4th at the European Quarterfinals.

Karavis also podiumed at the 2019 Lowlands Throwdown and finished 5th at an incredibly stacked 2020 Strength in Depth.
