A very simple and self explanatory point. In CrossFit we chase performance and functionality. The ancillary benefit of this is that physical appearance also improves, without being the primary objective. 

That means that whilst you are gradually improving your WOD times, notching up new weightlifting PRs and learning new skills, your body is changing and adapting to all this new stimulus. Your body is improved naturally, whilst you were working on other goals.

Often in the gym, chasing looks alone can be a great way to hone in on personal insecurities and produce a constant feeling of dissatisfaction. If looks are the primary goal, where is the end point? CrossFit has the magic effect of constantly reminding you of the small victories along the way. A new PR, a better Grace time etc. With the emphasis on physical appearance pushed to the background, performance can be concentrated on instead. The hard truth is hat CrossFit WILL make you look good naked, it just reminds you that there are more important things to be worrying about at the end of the day.
