How did you come to CrossFit?
Steve – Honestly, I booked my CrossFit level 1 on a whim as a fellow PT kept singing its praises. That’s where I did my first WOD. It was taken by a young Scandanavian lass, that I later found out was Annie Thorisdottir. Blew me away..
Why did you open your own box?
Steve – In fairness, when I moved to the area, there were no jobs or CrossFit, so eventually I affiliated. A week in & Jason rang. It turned out he had just started a small gym, so we partnered up and CFND was born.
Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?
Steve- Myself & Jason are, let’s say… lively characters. We are quite different, Jason being in his mid 20s & myself being a Master but we have a common goal. We both strive to provide the best training & experience we can & invest heavily in our further education.
How does your member structure look like? (Number of members, Male/Female, Young/Old, any competitive athletes?)
Steve – When we started out it was mostly males, but over the year we have had a staggering female influx. Age range really does vary from 20’s to mid 30’s with an ever increasing influx of Masters (40+). We also run kid’s classes which are very popular.
Do you have additional training possibilities (Yoga, Gymnastics etc.)?
We are a pure CrossFit Outfit with Main WOD classes, Olympic Lifting Classes & Personal Training. We keep the WOD’s extremely varied with focus on different elements of CrossFit
Do you consult your members in nutrition questions?
Steve – We offer guidance on the Paleo diet & post tasty treats to our Facebook page. We are currently teaming up with a Nutritionist that trains with us, whom is going to offer a more in-depth offering in the coming months. Exciting times..
If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?
We offer a ‘Beginners ‘Elements Package’ to those starting out. The package is for one month and contains 15 sessions. The two initial sessions are on a 1-2-1 basis with a Coach, which allows a more in-depth intro to the foundational movements. Clients can then use Open Gym and enter the main WOD classes on a beginner level.
Do you organize any internal or open competitions?
We currently organize in house competitions for all levels. These are great fun and always received really well, as they allow everyone to experience the frill of competition in the safety of their own box. As the box grows we will definitely be doing an open throw down. Watch this space..
Do you have links to other boxes?
We are in regular contact with all the local boxes in Devon & Cornwall as most of us are involved with the same competitions and attend the same courses.
Can I drop in if I am passing your city? Who do I have to contact?
You can indeed drop-in although you do need to contact us first, mostly due to our classes being limited to 12 people. We can also tell you all the best surf spots, great if you surf.
