How did you come to CrossFit?
In 2008 I started my work in gymnasiums. I gave classes of Spinning bike, Body Pump and work as assistance in exercise room. In the mean while I took a pos graduation in personal training and another in functional training, after that in summer of 2012 I find CrossFit on Internet, it was love at the first sight. It was the training program most complete that I ever seen. Then I decide to take the Level 1 course at Manchester in October of 2012.
Why did you open your own box?
I opened my own box because after taking the level 1 course, we start some classes with only 2 or 3 crossfiters and after a couple of months we had 20. In Portugal it was the very beginning and I believe that in a few months I can double the members of my space. I think if I’m going to do this, I have to do it right! I have to affiliate my own Box. I decided that in May of 2013 and in July the affiliation was approved.
Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?
My Box it’s copulated with a gym, booth spaces share the same reception. You come in and fill a form mark your first ON RAMP class and your evaluation. We standout from others because of our community spirit, everybody knows each other and helps each other. We are like a family.
How does your member structure look like? (Number of members, Male/Female, Young/Old, any competitive athletes?)
Our box has about 70m2, we start at September with 20 members and right now we have 80. We have more women then men, the older athlete it’s a female with 59 years old and the youngest it’s a female to with 17. We have some of then competing in National events. Last November we had a competition in Aveiro and we had a female athlete in the final event. I was very proud because we just open at 2 months before the competition.
Do you have additional training possibilities (Yoga, Gymnastics etc.)?
Yes we have. We have 1 class per week of CrossFit Endurance, a mobility class and a Power yoga class.
Do you consult your members in nutrition questions?
I just advise then to eat well and some suggestions to follow the paleo diet. In every monthly evaluation we speak about their diet and how can they eat better and healthy. In last week we arrange a workshop about paleo with help of an outside owner affiliate.
If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?
When you start as a beginner you are advised to start the ON RAMP classes for the first month. The ON RAMP classes are the beginners ones that you will learn the CrossFit methodology and 3 fundamentals exercises, air squat, deadlift and shoulder press. You have to dominate this 3 to pass for the next level, the intermediate classes.
Do you organize any internal or open competitions?
We will organize the first internal competition in 8 and 9 of February in a fitness fair at our city, with the goal of showing our work and show to the people that CrossFit it’s for everybody.
Do you have links to other boxes?
No I haven’t.
Can I drop in if I am passing your city? Who do I have to contact?
