How did you come to CrossFit?
I was looking for a conditioning program for my kayaking athletes, that refuses to use machines. Functional training didn’t offer the intensity I was looking for and didn’t incorporate that many gymnastics- and movements. When I found CrossFit, that seemed to be the answer to nearly all of my questions.
Why did you open your own box?
When we started at the Kayak-Club outside in February 2012, some people passing by stopped to watch us doing KB-Swings and ShuttleSprints in the snow. The other day the asked, why there were people sprinting out of the boathouse, while other did WallClimbs outside. My athletes invited them to join and in May 2012 there were 30 people training with us. Until that time it was clear for me, what I had to do.
Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?
When Greg Glassman said, that the approach of professional athletes and next door’s housewife differs by degree, not kind, I couldn’t completely believe it, until the first random promenadeurs came by to join my athletes, who were used to 16-20 hours training per week and did the same WoDs, but scaled to their personal needs. Our family reaches from from students to professional athletes, to young mothers, to salesmen, to doctors, cops and firemen. Come join us, you will be welcome.
How does your member structure look like? (Number of members, Male/Female, Young/Old, any competitive athletes?)
We are about 45 people right now. The youngest guys are 17, the oldest are 66 (!). Most of come to the box about 4 times per week and the 10 athletes, that take part in some small regional competitions use to train a little more often… 😉
Do you have additional training possibilities (Yoga, Gymnastics etc.)?
We sometimes have Yoga- & Kettleball-Workshops and in February, there will be Oly-, Gymnastics- & Mobility-Classes.
Do you consult your members in nutrition questions?
We got a Nutritiongroup on fb, which is used frequently! Our members support each other with a combination of Paleo, Zone and Primal.
If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?
As a beginner, you have to join our Beginner-Classes at least 6 times to get to know the 9 fundamental movements, plus basic gymnastic movements like the PushUp or the OlyLifts. Your first class is free and you can also take a 10 punchcard once to see, if our program fits for you.
Do you have links to other boxes?
We use to go on road trips from time to time and have already been warmheartedly welcomed at CrossFit am Main, CrossFit SG, CrossFit FRA and CrossFit Essen.
