How did you come to CrossFit?

I became German Champion of STREND in 2003 (Which combines strength exercises and endurance). Shortly after this STREND somehow declined. Since then I was looking for something similar that challenges me all over different skills. I discovered CrossFit in 2010. There was a box in my hometown that put their WODs and results online. I followed them and got addicted right from the first WOD.

Why did you open your own box?

To be honest: It is kind of our personal playground :). We are Personal Trainers since about 10 years and I had the dream of having my own gym where I can train like I want, where I can spread my idea of functional movement, where I can hang around with people that feel similar and where I can develop as an entrepreneur and live free what I am loving!

Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?

What differs our box from others who offer Crossfit in Berlin is that our focus is on strength. We believe that strength is the potential to every other physical skill and prevents you from injuries. Our training is based on 4 main-exercices and we want our members to progress their technique and strength in those lifts. Doing that we always follow the principle: Quality before quantity. For coaching quality reasons we just let maximum 10 people train in one group. All of our coaches are personal trainers as well and are professional educated and very experienced. Last but not least: We`ve got a lot of beautiful girls and boys training at SPREE CrossFit.

What does your membership structure look like? (Number of members, Male/Female, Young/Old,  any competitive athletes?)

There are about 100 people training in our box right now. It is all mixed male/ female, different ages (between 18 and 52 years old), advanced and beginners. This year some of us want to join the Open for the first time.

Do you have additional training possibilities (Yoga, Gymnastics etc.)?

We do a lot of personal training. We`ve got mobility classes, a basic course (here we teach the main-lifts and do some hypertrophy workouts to get them beginners ready for the real shit), cross-yoga-classes and weightlifting courses.

Do you consult your members in nutrition questions?

We are just working on a nutrition course which should start in march this year. Julien Hoffmann (3rd Place Natural Bodybuilding National Championships 2013) will teach our members and guest as well the fundamentals of healthy and sports nutrition. We believe in Paleo (100% Paleo 80% of the day :)) and there will be a Paleo-Bistro integrated in our box in march this year.

If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?

You can join the WODs from the first day on because our coaches are able to scale every workout. We highly recommend to join the basic course which is a 8week circle and teaches you main lifts and hypertrophy.

Do you organize any internal or open competitions?

Not yet.

Do you have links to other boxes?

We know most of the box owners here in Berlin and some others all over Germany.
