How did you come to CrossFit?

Maayan had heard about CrossFit from his friend who was CrossFitting in Los Angeles at Valley CrossFit.  At the time, Maayan was living in Philadelphia and signed up at the closest box, CrossFit Center City.

Why did you open your own box?

When Maayan moved back to Israel, there weren’t any boxes in Tel Aviv, so he was training in a local globo gym and there was an obvious need for a CrossFit box in Tel Aviv. Maayan and Yonatan partnered up because they had similar goals: to raise the level of training in Israel amongst regular everyday people and within the upper echelon of elite athletes in the country who compete on the international stage.

Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?

Our box stands out for a few reasons: 1. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service 2. We have an amazingly diverse community. Tel Aviv is a very international city and our membership reflects that. We have members from many different countries and from all corners of the world. 3. Our location…we are located right on the beach overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The view can’t be beat!

How does your member structure look like? (Number of members, Male/Female, Young/Old,  any competitive athletes?)

With all of our different programs combined we are about 400 members and growing! Our members are mostly young professionals, but we do have kids, teenagers and some seniors amongst our membership. We have quite a few competitive athletes and a lot of them compete in other sports besides CrossFit: MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai, Football, American Football, Baseball, Lacrosse, Sailing and Surfing. During last year’s CrossFit Open, our team qualified for the Asia Regional.

Do you have additional training possibilities (Yoga, Gymnastics etc.)?

Our most popular additional training sessions are our Olympic Weightlifting classes. We also offer CrossFit Kids, Gymnastics classes, Strength Classes, Mobility classes and various other Skills classes.  We have Muay Thai and BJJ on our schedule. We periodically will offer Yoga and other specialty seminars.

Do you consult your members in nutrition questions?

We have held nutrition seminars and post nutrition related articles on our website, including recipes. We have held nutrition challenges in the past. Our coaches are always available for consultation.

If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?

Every new member to CrossFit Tel Aviv must complete our 3 Elements classes (to be completed with in 1 weeks time). After those classes are completed the member will join our Level 1 group training sessions. At the same time they are training in the Level 1 sessions, it is expected that our new members also attend our Skill classes and seek out personal training from our coaches in order to work on their specific weaknesses.

Do you organize any internal or open competitions?

Every so often we will organize an internal competition. During the summer we host our “Olympics” competition, where each member gets to represent their “home” country. Because of the international flavor of our membership, we usually have over 30 countries represented. This past year we participated in the “Lift Up Luke” WOD and turned it into an internal competition of sorts. In preparation for the 2014 CrossFit Open, each Saturday we program one of the past years Open WODs and give out a prize for the best RX’ed time for the day.

Do you have links to other boxes?

We are also the owners of CrossFit Holon, which is located just south of Tel Aviv. We gladly participate in other events and competitions hosted by other boxes in Israel.
