How did you come to CrossFit?
I actually started to rehabilitate my leg from an accident that happened in a football (soccer) game. I broke my shinbone (open fracture) and it took me about a half a year to start walking again. So I wanted to get fit again pretty fast and found CrossFit.
Why did you open your own box?
I was training hard but there were no good facilities in our city. So we wanted a place to train properly. Also a lot of my friends were getting interested and wanted to join my training cause I was getting good results.
Why exactly should I join YOUR box? What makes it standout from others?
We have a very positive atmosphere and quality coaching. We have experienced coaches and they have a long background in coaching other sports as well. We have an opportunity for training your own stuff, since we have an OpenGym box available at almost 24h. Members can go at the gym with a keycard they acquire after On-Ramp.
How does your member structure look like? (Number of members, Male/Female, Young/Old, any competitive athletes?)
We have little more female members. Most of the members are in 20-40 year old category, but we do have younger and older as well. We do have a lot of competitive athletes, Saara Laaksonen, for example, coach of ours was at the Regionals this year and finished 18th.
Do you have additional training possibilities (Yoga, Gymnastics etc.)?
We have a gymnastic training center right next to us and we’ve made a deal with them, so we organize gymnastic classes for our customers. We have a mobility class and we have specific rookie classes for members that have recently finished On-Ramp. We also do weightlifting specific classes.
Do you consult your members in nutrition questions?
We do. We have couple of nutrition lectures in our On-Ramp. After that its mainly upon requests.
If I start as a beginner – how does my training in the first month look like?
You would join in an On-Ramp course which is one month and 12 training sessions. After that you can join our classes and would probably choose the “rookie” classes at first.
Do you organize any internal or open competitions?
We’ve organized a competition for our members for two years now in the summer. It’s a team competition where anyone can join. We coaches then make up the teams. There is also a party involved after the comp. We had 72 participants this year plus all the volunteers and judges.
Do you have links to other boxes?
We do, but they aren’t updated at the moment. There are many new boxes popping up at the moment in Finland. As soon as we get a new version of our web page, we will update them.
