Speaking to the Buttery Bros, Annie Thorisdottir announced she will skip the 2025 CrossFit season. In the interview she shared her opinion on CrossFit, CrossFit HQ and how inadequate safety measures led to the tragic death of Lazar Dukic.

“I love CrossFit. It’s been my life for half my life. I will continue to do CrossFit for the rest of my life. Support the community, the sport, and the athletes.”

Yet for the first time since the Open began in 2009, Annie will not be taking part, citing her major dissatisfaction with CrossFit HQ.

Why Is Annie Thorisdottir Not Competing in 2025 CrossFit?

I feel very, very disappointed in how they have handled everything and what happened, obviously. That’s the biggest thing. But then how they’ve handled it going forward is even more disappointing and devastating.”

She stated she will continue to support the community and do workouts at her gym but does not want to be part of a system that is failing its athletes.

Is This Going To Be A Trend in 2025?

Clearly this is a time of flux for CrossFit and competitive fitness. Annie said she is considering signing up for the World Fitness Project and it seems likely many of the sport’s biggest names will pick and choose different events to see which organisations can drive the sport forward.
