Megan Jacoby Faces the Hardest Question Yet: “Will This Be My Last Dance?”

| Mar 31, 2026 / 3 min read

For Megan Jacoby, 2026 was supposed to build on everything she fought to regain.

Instead, it has become a test of something deeper.

In her latest YouTube episode, the 2024 HYROX World Champion opened up about the physical setbacks and uncertainty shaping her season. After battling back from major back surgery, Jacoby now faces another challenge, this time a meniscus tear that has disrupted her momentum once again.

“I think, will this be my last dance?”

Megan Jacoby – From Champion to Comeback

Jacoby’s rise to the top of HYROX was rapid. In just her third Pro race she went sub-60 clocking 58:58, earning her a spot amongst the elite.

From there, things moved quickly. She carried that form through the season and went on to win the 2024 HYROX World Championship, establishing herself as one of the best in the sport.

Then came Amsterdam.

She finished second at HYROX Amsterdam in October 2024, but what followed mattered far more than the result. Just weeks later, Jacoby revealed what had been happening behind the scenes.

“I couldn’t run a single step,” she wrote in a November 22 Instagram post, describing pain that suddenly began radiating down her leg.

An MRI confirmed a severe lumbar disc herniation. Surgery followed soon after in Germany, bringing her season to a sudden stop.

Her return came quicker than expected.

By March 2025, she was already back competing and winning at the ESN Hybrid Games in Birmingham. A few weeks later, she returned to HYROX-style racing in Mixed Doubles and came within seconds of a world record.

By October, she was back on the Pro start line in Stuttgart and immediately returned to form, winning in 58:09. She followed that with a second-place finish in Pro Doubles alongside Linda Meier and closed the year with another Pro Women’s win in Madrid in 58:40.

From the outside, it looked like everything was back on track.

Setback After Setback for Megan Jacoby

But 2026 has been different.

Despite strong fitness, Jacoby’s body has not cooperated. A meniscus tear has forced her to step away from running, shifting her focus to controlled strength work and engine training.

“I feel like my body is working against me,” she said.

With the World Championships approaching, even she admits there is uncertainty around her return.

A Different Perspective

What has changed most is her mindset.

“Being able to train every day for the rest of my life is more important than a few races,” she said.

Still, one thing remains clear.

“I won’t give up on my dream. I will rise” she wrote in an Instagram post.

For Jacoby, this season is no longer just about results. It is about how she responds when everything becomes uncertain.
