In what is big news for fitness tech lovers, Google has unveiled the successor to the FitBit Charge – The Fitbit Edge. Offering up to 7 days of battery life, notifications, GPS, an altimeter, and a small number of apps, the product is expected to launch in October 2026 and will cost an estimated $149 to $199.
There has long been talk of Google developing another Fitbit device, and the technology giant leaked its latest offering during the launch of the Pixel 11 series in August. Many have already discussed similarities between the Fitbit Air and Google Pixel Watch 5.
What Does The Fitbit Edge Offer?
We haven’t had a new Fitbit Charge since 2023, and it appears that this could be dead, given the launch of the Fitbit Edge. The Edge seemingly still features a small display, YouTube Music, Google Maps, and Find My Phone.
Wearers will also be able to use an altimeter, an automatic activity recognition tool, and a precise GPS. Such features make it an excellent option for athletes looking to track their activity without getting the wrist notifications of a smartwatch.
The Fitbit Edge will be available in a few different colors when it launches. Customers can choose between black, green, and orange, matching the Obsidian, Olive, and Canyon shades of the Pixel 11 Pro Series. However, those hoping for another Steph Curry edition, as with the FitBit Air and Pixel Watch 5, will be disappointed.
The Fitbit Edge features a set of sensors on the back, as well as an elongated button on either side. However, wearers won’t find as many sensors as with the Pixel Watch 5. Elsewhere, pinch mechanisms allow wearers to switch up the band.
Why The Fitbit Edge Is a Strong Alternative to the Fitbit Air & Pixel Watch 5
The Fitbit Edge is a strong new option in Google’s wearable range. The Fitbit Air is the cheapest, with no screen, while the Pixel Watch 5 is like having a phone on your wrist. The Fitbit Edge is somewhere in between and works on Android and iOS, something that the Pixel Watch 5 doesn’t offer.
The launch date for the Fitbit Edge remains unknown, but customers won’t have to wait long, with Google undoubtedly wanting it available ahead of the holiday shopping season.
