PRVN CEO and Jay Crouch Push Back Against Dave Castro’s Claim of Edited Video Submission

| Apr 15, 2026 / 1 min read

When the leaderboard for the 2026 CrossFit Quarterfinals closed, Jay Crouch was in first place worldwide. That changed after his score for Workout 1 was adjusted, as he suffered a 1-minute penalty, and dropped from 1st place to 38th.

His original time of 5:46, which ranked 2nd in the workout, was revised to 6:46, moving him down to 284th for that event.

Tia commented “this is crazy”.

In the video below, Dave Castro gave his reasoning behind the 1-minute penalty.

Castro said that the 1-minute penalty was given for the missed rep, and he also claimed that Crouch technically edited his video submission because he added a timer overlay. He cited the CrossFit Games rulebook to detail that an athlete can also be penalized for this.

Once the video was live, Nic Johnstonn (CEO of PRVN), posted on social media to show that Castro’s claim was false, that the video has not been tampered with in any way.

Jay Crouch also released his video submission for Workout 1, where you can see there is no video overlay.
