2020 CrossFit Games First 6 Events Announced

The first stage of the 2020 CrossFit Games kicks off tomorrow and the first six workouts have been announced. This year’s CrossFit Games will be divided into two stages, the first an online competition starting in athletes’ garage gyms or local affiliates around the world.

The top 20 men and top 20 women from the Open, as well as champions from 10 Sanctional events, will compete in this virtual event on September 18 and 19.

The top 5 men and top 5 women will then advance to the seconds stage to compete in person for the title of Fittest on Earth on October 19 to 25. Stage 1 of the CrossFit Games will determine placing and prize money for athletes from 6th to 30th place.

2020 CrossFit Games – What You Need to Know

CROSSFIT CEO ERIC ROZA TRIES CROSSFIT GAMES WORKOUT 1

“The key thing that I’ve had to keep in mind is that the workout may be called Fran, it may be a couplet of thrusters and pull-ups and it may start with 21s, but this workout is not Fran,” said Eric.

Roza chose to reduce the loading for the thrusters to 95 lb. to preserve the intended stimulus of the workout.

2020 CROSSFIT GAMES AFFILIATE PARTICIPATION

CrossFit is encouraging affiliates to workout along the CrossFit Games and the community to participate from home.

Since Stage 1 of the 2020 CrossFit Games will happen in athletes’ local affiliates and garage gyms, so anyone around the world can take part and see how they stack up to the 30 competing athletes.

CrossFit “will provide versions of the events for the WOD each day as well as lesson plans to help you facilitate the events with a larger group, so you can replicate the experience for your members if you’d like,” the organisation wrote.

Required equipment for the events includes barbells, bumper plates, pull-up bars, squat racks, GHDs, rowers, jump ropes, and HSPU wall space.

“What’s more important than the Games, is the community and the affiliates and everyone who is doing CrossFit,” Castro said in a short video outlining the message of the 2020 CrossFit Games.
