Hong Beom-seok has opened 2026 with a string of strong HYROX results, continuing a comeback story that has become one of the more compelling narratives in Asian hybrid racing.
The South Korean athlete has already delivered several notable performances this year. At HYROX Osaka 2026, held from January 30 to February 1, he finished first in Pro Doubles with Byungseok Song in 55:11, first in Mixed Doubles with Hyunji Kang in 55:18, and fourth in the Men’s Team Relay in 54:30, according to HyResult.
He followed that with more solid results at HYROX Taipei 2026 on February 28 to March 1, placing fourth in Pro Doubles with Byungseok Song in 53:51 and seventh in Doubles Men with Minho Choi in 54:42.
Those results matter even more in light of what came before them.
A Long Way Back
Hong suffered a serious knee injury during the final of Physical: 100 Season 2. In a video update posted to his YouTube channel in April 2024, he explained that the injury happened when his knee “twisted in the opposite direction” during the final event and that he heard a loud popping sound before being sent flying. He added that he had pushed with everything he had in the moment. That injury effectively ended that chapter and forced him into recovery.
Now, less than two years later, he is back competing regularly in HYROX and producing winning results again.
Building Momentum in 2026
Hong’s recent training suggests that this return has not been casual. In January, he shared HYROX-specific engine work built around running, bike volume and wall balls. Later that month, he posted transition-focused training featuring treadmill running and SkiErg work. In his latest YouTube vlog, uploaded on March 14, he documented interval training in Surabaya, Indonesia, while managing heavy travel and rising heat.
In that video, Hong said, “Despite our busy schedule, I am putting a lot of effort into continuing my training,” while also noting that HYROX competition in Asia is only beginning to build.
That broader growth matters. In February 2026, global sports brand PUMA announced Hong as its Global Training Ambassador, making him the only Asian athlete in the lineup and reinforcing his growing influence in the global hybrid fitness space.
More Than a Return
Hong Beom-seok’s 2026 season is shaping into proof that he can still perform at a high level across multiple HYROX formats while helping push the sport forward in Asia. With more races still ahead, his comeback remains one to watch.
