South African Powerlifter Colton Engelbrecht has completed one of the most impressive deadlifts in history.

Using the Sumo Deadlift variation, he locked out 520kg, or 1,146.4lb at the 2026 Siberian Power Show.

Colton Engelbrecht and His 520kg Deadlift

It’s important to point out that this lift is considered unofficial, as lifting straps are not permitted in powerlifting competitions. Even so, the sheer strength required to complete it highlights Colton’s lift as one of the most extraordinary displays of power in recent memory.

What makes the feat even more impressive is that Engelbrecht had already competed in a full powerlifting meet beforehand. He completed nine attempts across the squat, bench press, and deadlift before attempting the 520-kilogram (1,146.4-pound) exhibition lift.

For the lift, Engelbrecht wore a lifting belt and straps. The execution was highly controlled: he first pulled the slack out of the bar before driving the weight up to a strong and decisive lockout.
