Oberhausen hosted the inaugural HYROX World Championships in 2019. Since then, the event has grown into the sport’s premier competition, attracting thousands of qualified athletes from around the world. The event brings together the top 0.5% of HYROX athletes worldwide, with qualification standards becoming increasingly competitive each season.
The event features Elite 15 athletes, Pro competitors, Age Group qualifiers, Adaptive Invitational athletes, and Mixed Relay teams. It serves as the culmination of a demanding HYROX season and showcases the very best talent in fitness racing.

What to Expect in Stockholm
The 2026 HYROX World Championships will take place at the 50,000-capacity Strawberry Arena, formerly known as Friends Arena.

Fresh off the back of his Men’s Pro Solo world record, Alexander Rončević enters Stockholm as one of the leading contenders in the men’s field. Joanna Wietrzyk will also be among the athletes to watch after a standout season on the women’s side.
Fans watching in the arena and at home will also be able to follow the progress of athletes including Tim Wenisch, Hidde Weersma, Linda Meier, Lauren Weeks, and many others competing across the championship divisions.

There has been a substantial increase in prize money for this year’s elite races, with a total prize pool of $504,000 compared to $302,000 in 2025. Winners of the Elite 15 men’s and women’s races will each receive $40,000.
The four-day event begins with the traditional Walk of Nations and opening ceremony before competition gets underway.

How Will Races Work at the 2026 HYROX World Championships?
The World Championships use the standard HYROX race format. Singles races consist of eight 1km runs, each followed by a functional workout station. Athletes therefore complete a total running distance of 8km alongside eight demanding fitness stations.
The format is straightforward in theory but brutally challenging in practice, testing endurance, strength, power, pacing, and mental resilience.
The floor layout remains the same for HYROX Doubles races. However, two-person teams can divide the workload at each station while both athletes must complete all eight runs. Successful teams typically use smart strategy and complementary strengths to maximize performance.
