Australian Athlete Ricky Garard was stripped of his 3rd place podium finish at The 2017 CrossFit Games after testing positive for PEDs. He was banned from CrossFit competitions for 4 years.
After issuing a challenge to Mat Fraser on social media (see below), Garard posted his unofficial times and thoughts about the 2020 CrossFit Games.
“Firstly, I want to thank & respect @thedavecastro @crossfitgames for defying the odds & finding a way to run this years CFG during these crazy times.
Obviously all of my attempts are unofficial. I didn’t have a professional judge fly out, I didn’t get the proper athlete briefing, I had the upper hand of knowing other athletes scores in advance, I chose to do the workouts over Saturday/Sunday (because that’s when I wasn’t working & the gym was available). I did do my absolute best to simulate the same competition environment, standards & time constraints over 2 consecutive days.
A big congratulations to all the athletes that competed in CFG 2020 & especially the offical Top 5 that are heading to the Ranch to determine this years Fittest.
Here are my unofficial times, placings & points for each event:
Friendly Fran: 4:05, 9th/72pt
1RM Front Squat: 367lbs, 28th/7pts
Damn Diane: 5:00, 19th/34pts
1km Row: 2:56, 9th/68pts
TOTAL: 181points/17th Place
Nasty Nancy: 17:43, 1st/100pts
Handstand Hold: 1:22, 6th/80pts
Awful Annie: 9:28, 6th/80pts
TOTAL: 441 points/5th Place
I was very grateful for this unique opportunity to simulate this competition, after all I did this to get feedback on exactly what I needed to work on over the next 12 months. I am honestly stoked to stack up in the top 5 after the emotional roller coaster I have been on over the last 3 years. I still have a lot of work to do and I can’t wait to dial things in 100%.
Thank you to everyone that reached out to me showing your support this weekend, it means a lot. Shout out to the loyal @bentongym community for always having my back & bringing out the best in me. ??”
