How To Lose Lower Back Fat For Good

Don’t fall for the spot fat reduction exercise myth…

If you want to know how to lose lower back fat and annihilate your love handles, you have come to the right place.

“Love handles” and lower back fat are terms used to describe excess fat that accumulates in the area around the waist and lower back.

Love handles typically refer to the pockets of fat that sit on either side of the lower abdomen and often bulge out over the waistband of pants or skirts. These fat deposits can be stubborn and difficult to get rid of, even with exercise and a healthy diet.

Lower back fat, on the other hand, refers to the excess fat that accumulates on the lower back, just above the hips. This area can also be difficult to target with exercise and diet alone.

Both love handles and lower back fat are common problem areas for many people, especially as they age and their metabolism slows down. It is important to maintain consistency when it comes to nutrition and exercise to lose lower back fat and love handles.

But you want to know how to lose lower back fat, or love handles, for good? Then check out what Jeff Cavaliere had to say about it.

Jeff Cavaliere was the head physical therapist of the New York Mets for 3 years and is now a YouTube sensation. He delivers clear information without noise on his ATHLEAN-X YouTube channel.

He shared a video explaining how to lose lower back fat and debunking the love handles myth that many people still fall for.

How to Lose Lower Back Fat

The problem with lower back fat is more common among males. While women tend to store fat around their thighs and rear ends, men have the tendency to have stubborn fat centred around their waistline.

You might have seen online exercises to reduce love handles, or workouts to burn lower back fat, but Cavaliere explains that those exercises are very likely not worth it. That’s because localised body fat reduction via exercise is simply not possible. You will lose body fat overall while exercising, but you simply cannot target fat burn in a specific area of your body.

“Many people will try to get rid of their love handles and lower back fat by hitting the low back directly with hyperextensions or the love handles with side bends. Neither of these exercises will do much to decrease your body fat,” he explains.

Instead, Cavaliere begs you to opt for big compound moves like the deadlift “which requires that you develop tremendous lower back strength and stability.” Apply progressive overload and you will be burning fat and strengthening your back in no time, all while fighting against that lower back fat and love handles.

Maintaining a healthy body fat percentage can have several benefits for your overall health and well-being. Here are some potential benefits of having a low body fat percentage:

  1. Reduced risk of chronic diseases: Research suggests that having a low body fat percentage may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.
  2. Improved cardiovascular health: Lower body fat can be associated with improved cardiovascular health, including lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  3. Improved physical performance: Having a lower body fat percentage can improve athletic performance by increasing strength, speed, and endurance.
  4. Reduced strain on joints: Carrying excess body fat can put additional strain on joints, leading to joint pain and increased risk of injury. Maintaining a lower body fat percentage can reduce this strain and protect joint health.
  5. Improved self-esteem and body image: For some individuals, maintaining a low body fat percentage can improve self-esteem and body image, leading to better mental health and well-being.

It’s important to note that there can be negative consequences to having a body fat percentage that is too low, such as hormonal imbalances, decreased immune function, and decreased bone density. It’s important to aim for a healthy body fat percentage rather than trying to achieve an extremely low percentage. Consult with a healthcare professional to determine what a healthy body fat percentage is for you.
