Hunter McIntyre Sharpens Winning Formula Ahead of HYROX World Championships

With the 2026 HYROX World Championships rapidly approaching, Hunter McIntyre believes his preparation has entered its most important phase: doing less, but doing it better.

In a recent YouTube vlog, the multi-time HYROX World Champion offered an inside look at his final weeks of training, revealing why he has stripped his program down to only the elements he believes will determine success in Stockholm.

Precision Over Volume

McIntyre explained that the heavy work is largely complete. Instead of adding more training, he is focusing on refining the skills that matter most on race day.

“Trim the fat. Take out all the energy-wasting aspects,” McIntyre said. “Everything is perfect and it’s exact, and it’s the only things I need to work on. Otherwise, nothing matters up until World Championships.”

His latest session featured race-specific intervals combining treadmill running and SkiErg work before finishing with a demanding 30-pound wall ball challenge designed to replicate race fatigue.

The veteran athlete also completed a sled-focused strength session, emphasizing movement quality and efficiency rather than traditional gym lifts.

Chasing Performance, Not Numbers

One of the biggest themes throughout the vlog was McIntyre’s confidence in the fitness he has built throughout the season.

The former world champion revealed he recently set multiple personal records, including a 398-watt effort during a 20-minute FTP cycling test—more than 30 watts higher than his previous best.

“I’m setting PRs every week,” he said. “In the last ten days, I set a sim record by 45 seconds, broke my wall ball record, PR’d mountain runs, and hit 398 watts for 20 minutes.”

Despite the improvements, McIntyre has intentionally narrowed his focus. Rather than training every HYROX station equally, he believes the biggest gains now come from perfecting sled pushes, sled pulls, burpee broad jumps, and wall balls.

“The only things that can make a big difference right now are sleds, burpee form, and being unbroken on wall balls,” he explained.

Ready for the Challenge

McIntyre enters Stockholm after another successful season that included victory at HYROX Miami Beach in April and strong performances across both singles and doubles competition.

More importantly, he believes he is arriving as the best version of himself.

“I am going to go out into that battle ready to win, but also ready to die,” McIntyre said. “And if I get killed off as this version of myself, I got beat by the best possible adversary because I’m the best version of myself.”

With confidence high and preparation nearly complete, McIntyre’s focus now shifts from training to execution as he chases another HYROX world title.
