Sean Sweeney Retires from the CrossFit Games as An Elite Individual Athlete

The Cowboy plans to compete at the CrossFit Games when he enters the Masters age group, which is 5 years from now.

Sean Sweeney, the Cowboy CrossFit athlete, has announced he is taking a pause from the CrossFit Games. We will not see him at the biggest CrossFit competition stage until he can compete again as a master athlete, which is in 5 years.

The “retirement” announcement came as a surprise to the CrossFit community as Sean Sweeney is only 30 years old and competed this year in Madison. According to him, he will dedicate his time to growing his fitness program together with his wife Emmily Sweeney.

Sean Sweeney made sure to put emphasis on the “PAUSE” announcement, as he will continue to compete and will, eventually, come back to compete for Fittest on Earth, but as a master athlete.

“I am far from done competing,” he wrote. “I will still be hitting major CrossFit events in the upcoming years, but am not going to devote all year long to chase the Games.”

”You better believe I will be doing the masters, but that’s still 5 years away as I’m only 30 now. I plan on competing in the masters division til (sic) they put me in the grave.”

My time competing at the @crossfitgames has came to a PAUSE.
.
I am so incredibly grateful to have had the experiences out on the floor of the biggest fitness stage in the world over the years. There is no feeling like it.
.
I am extremely excited to be going full boar with the @cowboywayathlete program. @emmbutz and I are shifting focus and putting the majority of our time into growing our program. We will be getting on the road traveling to gyms, doing training days, and helping people find their love for fitness
.
That being said – I am FAR FROM DONE COMPETING. I will still be hitting major CrossFit events in the upcoming years but am not going to devote all year long to chase the Games.
.
MASTERS – you better believe I will be doing the masters – but that’s still 5 years away as I’m only 30 now. I plan on competing in the masters division til they put me in the grave.
.
One of the main focuses of the @cowboywayathlete is to give back to our community. I am 100% committed to growing our funding so that I can financially support hundreds – hell thousands of people that are not Games athletes – but regular people that love training and could use some help along the way. 20% of all our revenue goes to an athlete fund that is there for YOU in the form of equipment- competition expenses / travel / seminars etc….
.
@talkingelitefitness and @morningchalkup both have different 1 hour long interviews with me where we cover all sorts of fun stuff a be sure to give them a watch/listen! Thank you very much for helping me share the story @swoodland53 @tommymarquez @chalkupjlo
.
When I tried my first ever @crossfit workout – I had no idea what an amazing journey this would lead me on. I have met the love of my life, met so many amazing people, and found my true calling – to positively affect others through fitness.
.
I am beyond grateful for the life that I have and can not wait to be able to get out there and share that passion with the world as a coach.
