Brooke Wells Shares Positive Elbow Injury Update

“I’m absolutely committed to making this injury the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

Seven-time CrossFit Games athlete Brooke Wells just shared a positive update on her elbow injury on Instagram.

“Everything is healing perfectly and on/ahead of schedule,” she wrote.

“By all indications, we’re confident my elbow will be ready for me when I need it!!”

Wells severely injured her elbow during Event 12 at the 2021 CrossFit Games, a 1-rep max snatch. She had to withdraw from competition and later confirmed she would need reconstructive surgery for the dislocation.

“There is a complete tear of the muscle and ligaments on the inner side of the elbow (UCL), which caused the dislocation. A high-grade tear of the lateral collateral, and the flexer tendon was pulled of the bone. There was no fracture, or no surface damage to the joint,” she wrote on August 12.

Over three months have passed since, and the 26-year-old athlete is positive about her healing process and progress: “This process has been an incredible experience for me. I can feel myself growing through it and I’m absolutely committed to making this injury the best thing that has ever happened to me,” she shared.

💪🏻ELBOW UPDATE💪🏻

It been a BIG few weeks for me!

It’s now been over three months since my elbow surgery (August 12th). After the first month of rehab in Los Angeles, I’ve been primarily back in Nashville doing PT 3-5 days per week. We started with managing pain and stiffness from the surgery, which evolved into extensive range of motion work, and now much more.

Over the last 30 days, in addition to continued ROM work I’ve been able to begin doing strength movements such as bent over rows, ring rows, and push-ups on a box. These might seem like small milestones but they’re HUGE indicators of progress. I’m also training extremely hard on other areas 😈, which has helped me stay mentally and physically sharp as I work through my rehab.

Last week I was back in LA to meet with my surgeon who was extremely impressed with my progress. Everything is healing perfectly and on/ahead of schedule. By all indications, we’re confident my elbow will be ready for me when I need it!!

This process has been an incredible experience for me. I can feel myself growing through it and I’m absolutely committed to making this injury the best thing that has ever happened to me. 💪🏻
