Sam Briggs, CrossFit legend and overall badass athlete, has received an official invitation to compete in the Strength in Depth Semifinal in London, U.K.
After the end of the Individual Quarterfinals, only the top 60 athletes from Europe would get an invitation to participate in either European Semifinal events and Sam Briggs finished 67th this year. However, a few athletes did not accept the invitation and Sam Briggs received the official invitation from CrossFit HQ to backfill a position at the Strength in Depth Semifinal.
Talking to Morning Chalk Up, Briggs said there was no doubt she would accept it and have another shot at becoming the Fittest Woman on Earth once again. “When it finally settled in, I was like, this was the whole plan this season, this is my last big shot at individual competition, so I’ve just got to go all in.”
Early in January we reported that this could be Sam Brigg’s last year competing. Late in February, just before the announcement of 22.1 workout, Sam Briggs made it official and announced it would be her “last season competing in the sport.
Sam Briggs Retirement Options
Although it is implied that this is Sam Briggs’ last push for the CrossFit Games, we are yet to know what that exactly means.
Sam could stop competing as an elite individual athlete, but there are other routes she could take:
- Compete in a team
- Compete as a master athlete (which she could have done for the past 5 years)
