BEN SMITH SECURES HIS TENTH TRIP TO THE CROSSFIT GAMES

Ben Smith is quiet and reserved, instead letting his results do the talking. Not only has he shown that he is an athlete capable of making it to the CrossFit Games with consistency, he is also a former champion, taking the top spot on the podium in 2015. Last year at Regionals he was ill on the first day and had to fight back to secure his spot at Madison. This year he spent time out of the qualifying positions, yet a series of solid performances brought him back up the leaderboard and helped him punch his ticket to Madison.

THE RISE OF THE RUSSIANS

Roman Khrennikov and Andrey Ganin will both be representing Russia in Madison this summer. Roman Khrennikov, a relatively unknown athlete is 23, 6 foot and weighs in at 97kg. He destroyed every event and earned himself 500 points from six events! He also won the final event and he is quite clearly an all round athlete. He finished in second place in Triple 3 (endurance) and in third on Linda (testing strength and muscular endurance). It is going to be exciting to see his savage and unrelenting style on show in the USA this summer.

Roman

Andrey Ganin set the best time in the world for Linda. He beat Fraser, Vellner, Mundwiler, Esslinger and he excells when things get tough. When you watch him on the competition floor, he is able to flick the switch and hurt when he needs to. this was also demonstrated in Berlin as he won Event 5, one of the most brutal events of the 2018 Regionals. His is tall and strong and a dangerous athlete, who may be able to win events when it comes to The Games (if his Linda score is anything to go by).

With the changes to the 2018 CrossFit Regionals, it is great that we will see a more diversified collection of athletes competing in Madison.

FULL STORY BEHIND HILARIOUS VIRAL VIDEO OF FEMALE KICKING HER MALE TEAM MATE TO MAKE HIM WORK HARDER

This is how they roll at CrossFit Krypton 🙂 Here is the video in case you haven’t seen it.

https://www.facebook.com/CrossFitGames/videos/2030471920327989/

In what might have been the video of the weekend, @lindsey_jacoby of @crossfitkrypton kicked and yelled @claytondoes through a set of partner deadlifts. Swipe up in our story to see it.

“I got so much hate for that. … People said I was being super disrespectful to him,” Jacoby, smiling, said after Event 5.

So here’s the full story. Kennedy, an alternate on the team, was pressed into service shortly before the competition, and the team had almost no time to practice. In fact, the pair had only done 10 reps total at that deadlift weight before the event.

Kennedy knows the deadlift isn’t his best lift, and before the event he told Jacoby to push him.

“She was 100 percent right to do that,” he said.

Jacoby, a mom of 3, said she reminded Clayton that “this is your moment,” and she employed a well-used “mom finger” to indicate she was serious. As for the gentle kick?

“First of all, it was a toe tap, … and as soon as I did it, he stood up.”

So enjoy the video guilt-free. It’s just two teammates sticking to a plan and helping each other out.

It’s also funny as hell.

Here’s Kennedy motivating Jacoby. Now they’re even. And they’re good buddies.

JESS TOWL SMASHES THE EVENT 1 RECORD

Jess Towl started CrossFit two years ago. The former pro triathlete now holds the event record in Triple 3, which involved, in her own words, suffering for a long period of time—a thing she likes a lot. Towl says her triathlon background was a big advantage for Triple 3: “I knew how to manage pain from the beginning. I knew it was going to hurt, so I didn’t pace it,” she explains.

She is also the training parter of @stephchung2 and @eikgylfadottir. The sports journalist moved to Abu Dhabi a few years ago, and discovered CrossFit by entering to a local competition.

“I learned how to snatch during the warm-up with a PVC pipe. I didn’t even know what CrossFit was, but after that I fell in love with it,” she says.
