SLT Sues Lagree Fitness For $50 Million

Boutique fitness brand SLT is suing Lagree Fitness for $50 million over Megaformer supply and territorial rights. The two have had licensing agreements since 2011, but they are now involved in a fierce legal battle.

SLT has over 20 studios across 5 US states, the majority of which are spread across New York City. Founded by entrepreneur Amanda Freeman, SLT runs 50-minute Megaformer-based workouts.

What Is SLT Claiming?

A recent filing shows that the chain is now seeking at least $50 million and the equipment it believes it is entitled to. Based on the complaint, Lagree Fitness “controls the only authorized commercial channel” for the Megaformer model it requires. The lawsuit was filed on October 26 in California federal court.

The M2/M3 model is what SLT has built its business around, with alternatives proposed by Lagree being deemed unsuitable. Speaking on the case, Sebastien Lagree said:

“Lagree strongly disputes SLT’s characterization of our business relationship and the allegation that manufacturing and equipment-supply challenges were used deliberately to undermine its business or force it to surrender contractual rights.”

How The Outcome Could Affect The Industry

However, SLT’s allegations seemingly have strong claims, with many believing that the brand is not getting the full benefit of the 2011 agreement. However, it could still materialize that SLT is awarded damages, rather than Lagree being forced to part with the Megaformers.

The outcome could have a significant impact on how boutique fitness brands arrange exclusivity deals and partnerships moving forward. Constrained equipment supply could also impact SLT’s expansion plans.

It’s not the first time that Lagree has been to the courts, with the founder of the company suing St. Pete Studio earlier in 2026 for using knockoff reformer equipment. The claim was that the studio was using copycat machines while operating as a brand-licensed gym.
