The CanWest CrossFit Championship and the Granite Games are the latest Sanctionals to postpone their events due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Scheduled for June 5-7 and 12-14 respectively, both Sanctionals have announced they’ll postpone the competitions to a later date to keep volunteers, athletes and the community safe.
“Right now the world is in the midst of a global crisis, the full scope of which, is still evolving rapidly,” CanWest posted on Instagram.
“Given the recent developments with the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions currently in place, and with the health and safety of our volunteers, athletes and community in mind, we have decided to postpone the CanWest Championship until further notice.”

“In light of the current global situation, we’ve made the decision to postpone the 2020 Granite Games to a later date, to be determined,” the Granite Games announced. “We’ve made this decision, while keeping our community’s safety as our top priority.”

The announcements make for 14 Sanctionals postponed this season. Next up in the Sanctionals calendar are the Asbury Park Summer Games, scheduled for June 20-21. The Sanctional is planned for be followed by the French Throwdown and the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge (new date) the week after.

The CanWest Championship is working with local authorities to determine when it will be safe to host the event.
“As heartbreaking as it is to make this announcement, we know deep down it’s truly in the best interest of everyone involved to postpone,” the team wrote on Instagram.
POSTPONED SANCTIONALS AND THE CROSSFIT GAMES
CrossFit made its latest statement about the CrossFit Games on March 12, announcing they were panning on going ahead.
“CrossFit will continue to monitor circumstances globally in the coming months and coordinate with Madison, Wisconsin, our host community, to communicate information regarding our event,” CrossFit wrote on Instagram. “ If circumstances require it, the CrossFit Games have existing medical and emergency action plans that have been developed and continuously updated over the previous 13 seasons.”
“At this time, with the CrossFit Games more than four months away, event planning procedures include patient observation of the coronavirus (COVID-19). If circumstances closer to the event require action, our teams will coordinate with local authorities and share relevant event information as appropriate.”
