Panchik, Cho And Percevecz Won’t Compete for Team Mayhem Freedom This Season

Scott Panchik, the latest addition to the Mayhem Freedom team, recently revealed he’ll go back to individual competition for 2021. The 2019 4th Fittest Man on Earth was added to the team last season, the news revealed during the live announcement of CrossFit Open workout 20.1.

With four Affiliate Cup wins, the Mayhem Freedom team is the most successful CrossFit Games team to date.

Conformed by Rich Froning, Tasia Percevecz, Chyna Cho and Scott Panchik for the 2020 competitive season, the team decisively won the Strength in Depth Sanctional in London in January 2020. The team went on to gather another (tight) victory at Wodapalooza the following month, before the 2020 season was abruptly interrupted by the coronavirus.

Panchik’s announcement to return to the individual division follows recent rulebook changes to the Affiliate Cup, which determine that all team members must, in addition to being active members of the team’s CrossFit affiliate, “live within 100 miles of the CrossFit affiliate they are representing” and be able to prove they regularly train at the affiliate (section 1.1.4).

Panchik, living in Ohio, would therefore be ineligible to compete for Mayhem Freedom.

These changes also deem Chyna Cho ineligible, as she lives in California (outside the 100 mile range) and co-owns Good For You CrossFit alongside her husband Freddie Camacho.

Fellow team member Tasia Percevecz has also announced she won’t compete during the 2021 CrossFit Games season due to “adrenal/hormonal issues that forced me to significantly slow down my training for the first time in my career,” experienced during the end of the 2020 season.

The three-time CrossFit Games athlete still plans to help Haley Adams, Chyna Cho and Mayhem Freedom “accomplish their 2021 competitive goals,” as well as work on some fitness goals of her own.

This means that Mayhem Freedom’s team captain, Rich Froning, is the only athlete left in the team’s roster.

BOXROX has reached out to Froning for comment, we’ll publish an update once more information becomes available.
