5. Don’t Worry About the Leaderboard

When you first try CrossFit, if you’re a naturally competitive person, you’ll want to beat everyone around you.

However, when you’re first starting out with CrossFit make sure you forget about competition and focus instead on understanding and nailing the foundations, movements and techniques.

Dropping your ego when you first start is going to be crucial, especially because it could take away from you and your training.

Remember you’re only getting started, so comparing yourself to others is not the route to success, especially not at this point.

Extra tips for CrossFit beginners:

  • Clean up after yourself: make sure you don’t leave your weights or any gear you used laying around. Look after your gym’s equipment and put it back neatly where it belongs.
  • Don’t cheat reps: cutting reps will not lead to a fitter, stronger and healthier you. If you’ve showed up to work out, make sure you make the most out of your time in the Box. However, always remember that it is okay to scale a workout (and you’re always encouraged to), which might mean performing less reps than written on the whiteboard.
