Most lifters build their biceps training around the same small group of exercises. They use standing barbell curls, alternating dumbbell curls, and perhaps a preacher curl machine. These are all useful movements, but repeating the same pattern for months can make training stale and leave parts of the elbow flexors underchallenged.
The biceps are more than a muscle that bends the elbow. The biceps brachii also helps turn the palm upward, while the brachialis and brachioradialis contribute heavily to elbow flexion. A simple approach is to perform a heavier, more familiar curl first, then follow it with one unusual variation. For example, you could perform regular EZ bar curls before Bayesian cable curls on one day. On the second day, you could perform incline dumbbell curls before drag curls or Zottman curls.
Weekly training volume should suit your experience, recovery, and the amount of pulling already present in your program. Rows, pull ups, and pulldowns involve elbow flexion, but direct curls remain useful when arm size is the goal. Evidence suggests that multiple sets are generally more effective for hypertrophy than a single set, though more volume is only useful when you can recover and continue progressing.

Keep most sets close to muscular failure while maintaining clean form. You do not need to reach absolute failure on every set.
