BK Gudmundsson will take on Scott Panchik in the CrossFit Open Workout 18.4 live announcement when Dave Castro reveals the workout.
BK Gudmundsson is an Icelandic CrossFitter that trains in Hveragerði, Iceland. There he is one of the box owners of CrossFit Hengill. His real name is Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson and he is 25 years old, born in 1992.
Do you want to know more about Björgvin, his career and daily life? Keep reading.
Björgvin Karl used to be into soccer and played with his local team in Selfoss, and then changed to Stokkseyri, for many years before he got into CrossFit. BK got into the Premier league with the Stokkseyri team and played with them for 4 years.
Björgvin’s last game in the premier league in Iceland was in 2015, the same year he landed the 3rd place at the CrossFit Games. That game ended 12-0 for the other team, so we can understand why BK changed to CrossFit. He played 11 games in the premier league in total with two goals.
His favoriteplayer was the Brazilian Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima. Ronaldo was the top player in the world when Björgvin was growing up and was really popular in Iceland.
There has always been a sporty hobby going on because Björgvin is very active and is pretty good on snowboard and snowmobile as well as skateboarding. But I think we can all agree that he excels in CrossFit.
BK Gudmundsson CrossFit Open Training
To keep himself fit Björgvin focuses a lot on core strength and accessory work, which many athletes tend to forget. Check out these movements and don’t forget to click through all 5 pages of his post.
Björgvin lives with his girlfriend Katla María Ketilsdóttir in Stokkseyri. Stokkseyri is in the south of Iceland, about 35 minute drive from Reykjavík. That town is next to the biggest prison in Iceland and close to BK’s box CrossFit Hengill which is in Hveragerði.
Björgvin Karl has been to the CrossFit Games 4 times, the first time in 2014. His best result was in 2015 when he got in 3rd place. He is often training and hanging around the competitions with the Icelanders. Especially Annie Mist Thorisdottir and her boyfriend, Frederik Ægidius, who is also a Crossfitter.
Björgvin has won the Icelandic Throwdown at least three times, the competition is hard in Iceland and the throwdown is usually held at similar time as the Dubai Championship, where the prize is bigger and is therefore a bigger priority for professional athletes.
BK Gudmundsson and CrossFit Open Workout 18.4
Do you think Bjorgvin will beat Scott Panchik in CrossFit Open Workout 18.4 ?
BK is really strong as you can see in this video below. Hopefully that will get him onto the podium this year again. He got the 5th place in the 2017 Reeobok CrossFit Games in august. That same year BK won the Dubai fitness Championship in December like his friend and countrywoman Annie Mist Thorisdóttir.
