Legend CrossFit Cowboy Sean Sweeney Explains his Exit from CrossFit Games

"No I don’t have COVID"

CrossFit Cowboy Sean Sweeney has unfortunately had to drop out of the 2021 CrossFit Games.

CrossFit issued a statement:

“Individual athlete Sean Sweeney has withdrawn from competition for medical reasons. As a precaution, Sweeney was tested for COVID-19 twice, and the results were negative.”

Sean Sweeney posted the following on instagram:

Heartbroken to announce that I have withdrawn from the @crossfitgames due to medical reasons. (No I don’t have COVID ) I tested negative multiple times.
.
I had a crazy allergic reaction on Monday night – Tuesday I felt ok just like I had serious allergies –

Wednesday (the first day of competition) I felt ok but like I was drowning. After event 4, I was a hot mess but hadn’t crossed my mind that I may be sick. Just felt like the workouts were hitting me harder than normal.

Thursday AM – that’s when it hit me for real. I was absolutely throttled. Luckily I have the best fiancé and friends and family ever and they did everything possible for me to try and feel better. I started taking a Z pack along with zyrtec and zicam.

This morning I woke up and still felt like shit. I was hoping that the adrenaline of being on the floor would allow me to still perform ok.

Unfortunately that was not the case. I had nothing left. I was determined to finish that workout no matter what happened. I was in the hurt locker pretty bad when the time cap hit but knew I needed to finish. For me.

Thank you so much to everyone in the stands that cheered and helped me complete that final event. Our CrossFit community is the absolute best and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you all and my entire support crew.

As much as this is a real bummer for me – I’m going to choose to focus on the fact that I got to share the floor, if only for a little while, with the best athletes on earth – in front of the best crowd on earth.”

Watch all the action here.
