Mayan Classic and Madrid Championship Postponed

The Madrid Championship and Mayan Classic announced the postponement of their inaugural events last night.

The previous Sanctional events were first postponed in 2020 and rescheduled for April 17 and 18, 2021 and July 2021 respectively.

“You, who form this great family that extends for thousands of kilometres and a dozen countries, are our highest priority.

“Therefore, we have decided to postpone our first edition,” announced the Mayan Classic though Instagram.

“We look forward to the future but for now, we regret to announce that we are postponing the first edition of the Madrid Championship, due to not being able to hold the competition in the way this community deserves,” the Madrid Championship announced.

2021 CrossFit Events Postponed

These are the last two postponements announced from big CrossFit events and follow the same announcement from the West Coast Classic, Granite Games and Wodapalooza.

Filthy 150, the Irish Sanctional, announced it will return to its live stage in November 2021. With the restructuring of the CrossFit Games season, where Semifinals have to take place between May and June, this means Filthy 150 will not qualify athletes to the CrossFit Games.

The Italian Showdown, another previous Sanctional, also announced that they are committed to holding an event that recognises all 1,500 athletes signed up for the 2020 edition, and while it’s unclear when this will be possible, it does mean the event will not host one of the two European Semifinals.

Update: Strength in Depth confirmed they will not host a CrossFit Games Semifinal in 2021 either today.

Update (24.02.21): the Asbury Park Summer Games 2021 have moved online. “We want to keep you safe and fit!” the event announced.
