CrossFit Games Is Back on Facebook

After deleting all their Facebook and Instagram accounts amidst free speech and data privacy concerns, CrossFit HQ has brought the CrossFit Games back to Facebook.

The move comes four months after the CrossFit Games Instagram account relaunched, at the end of November 2019. CrossFit Training was the first account to be restored since the social channels were voluntarily taken down.

Ten months ago, CrossFit HQ deleted their Facebook and Instagram profiles citing censorship issues on the platforms.

The accounts disappeared from social media without a warning or explanation on May 22, 2019. Four days later, CrossFit issued a press release explaining why it had removed its Facebook and Instagram pages.

In it, the company cited free speech issues, data protection concerns, and questioned its privacy policies.

Yet three accounts – CrossFit Training and CrossFit Games on Instagram, and CrossFit Games on Facebook – have slowly come back to Facebook’s platforms in the last few months.

BOXROX reached out to CrossFit HQ for an explanation but they had no further information on the topic at present.

Unlike the CrossFit Games Instagram account, which was started from scratch, the old CrossFit Games Facebook page was reactivated, meaning CrossFit hasn’t lost its 2.6 million followers.

The account posted yesterday at midnight for the first time since May 20, 2019.

CrossFit’s Twitter and YouTube presence has remained active throughout.
