The CrossFit Games are only a couple of days away and top athletes from around the world will throw down at the biggest competition of the season.
This year is bound to be full of surprises and we are sure we’ll see some dark horses make the final stages of the Games. With the new scoring system and the big cuts taking place throughout competition, top athletes will have to work on their strategies to claim the title.
134 amazing women will take onto the competition floor at the CrossFit Games on Thursday, here are the top 10 we think you should keep an eye out for.
TOP FEMALE CONTENDERS FOR THE NUMBER 1 SPOT
Sara Sigmundsdottir
Sara has competed at the Games four times, with two podium finishes. She was forced to withdraw from the Games last year after suffering from a stress fracture on her rib.
This season she’s back in full swing and won the Open and CrossFit Strength in Depth, together with podium finishes at the Dubai CrossFit Championship, Wodapalooza and the Rogue Invitational.
She’s also Iceland’s National Champion. Could this be Sara’s year?
Tia-Clair Toomey
The reigning champion and winner of the CrossFit Games for the past two years is as strong and fit as ever. The Australian athlete – and National Champion – won both Wodapalooza and the Rogue Invitational this season and seems to be on track to make history in the women’s field, being crowned Fittest on Earth three times.
Sam Briggs
The Engine qualified to the Games through every possible route this season. Winning both the Dubai CrossFit Championship and the Australian CrossFit Championship, Sam Briggs also finished the Open ranked within the top 20 worldwide and is England’s National Champion.
It doesn’t stop there, Sam also placed first at the Reykjavik CrossFit Championship with team JST Compete, winning so an invitation to the Games as a team athlete as well.
The 37-year-old also qualified to the Age Group Online Qualifier to compete as a Masters athlete if she so wished.
Dani Speegle

Dani Speegle competed extensively at the start of the season and placed within the top 5 at the Dubai CrossFit Championship, Wodapalooza, Strength in Depth and the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge. She also finished the Open ranked 5th worldwide and was crowned Fittest in the USA.
It’ll be her first appearance at the CrossFit Games, but we reckon she’s one to watch out for.
Kristin Holte
As Norway’s National Champion, a Games competitor since 2014 and third place finisher at the Open, Kristin Holte is certainly someone to keep an eye out for. She won the Asia CrossFit Championship, pretty much dominating the event, and finished 5th at the Rogue Invitational.
Katrin Davidsdottir
The Icelandic athlete is known for her competitiveness. Already a two-times Games winner, Katrin won the Fittest in Cape Town Sanctional this season and finished fourth at the Rogue Invitational.
Ranked 13th worldwide after this years Open, she’s finished within the top 3 at Regionals every year since 2012 with the exception of one year and has three podium Games finishes from six appearances.
Jamie Greene

The New Zealand athlete is a three-times Games competitor and Open winner in 2016. This season, Jamie finished the Open ranked 4th worldwide and had strong appearances at a few Sanctionals, with a second-place finish at the Dubai CrossFit Championship and CrossFit Strength in Depth.
Although they are not contenders to take the top spot at The 2019 CrossFit Games, watch out for the next two female athletes as well!
Melina Rodriguez

It’ll be Melina’s second time at the Games, but the first time as an individual competitor. The Argentinan National Champion made the Games in 2017 with team BIGG CrossFit Recoleta and finished second at last year’s Latin American Regionals, missing on an individual Games spot by one place.
The Argentinan athlete finished the Open ranked 40th worldwide and could be a surprise top athlete this year.
Thelma Christoforou
We shared Thelma’s story a few months ago; the Cypriot National Champion has vast competitive experience under her belt and we bet we could be seeing her name in the latest rounds of competition.
Thelma finished the Open ranked within the top 100 women worldwide and has been crowned Fittest in Cyprus every year since 2016.
Karin Freyova
The Slovakian National Champion finished the Open ranked 12th worldwide. She has shown impressive improvement year after year, going from 1260 worldwide in 2016 to 60th in 2018 and top 20 this year. The 24-year-old has been crowned Fittest in Slovakia every year and is a 2018 Europe Regionals athlete, where she finished 7th.
