WATCH: The CompTrain Team Crush CrossFit Games Training

A typical morning for the CompTrain team as they prepare for the 2021 CrossFit Games.

As all 80 individual athletes prepare to battle it out to become the Fittest on Earth, the Comptrain crew (Katrin Davidsdottir, Amanda Barnhart, Chandler Smith and Samuel Kwant) are in Natick, MA prepping with coaches Ben Bergeron and Harry Palley.

Much like Tia Clair Toomey and several other other athletes, the Games work begins on the track. The CrossFit Games always has an element of running, so the team begin with a threshold workout, running various 1200m distances at their mile pace:

  • 1×1200
  • 3 minute rest
  • 2×600 (1 minute rest in between)
  • 3 minute rest
  • 3×400 (1 minute rest in between)
  • 3 minute rest
  • 6×200 (1 minute rest in between)

The second workout of the morning is a focus on endurance — a 30 yard handstand walk over various blocks and obstacles.

The third session of the day is timed crawl across the lake with Chandler and Katrin. Unlike traditional CrossFit training, the Games season has always included a swimming element, and this year is no different. Dave Castro recently revealed that Event 1 would have a swim and a paddle, so some water training is absolutely imperative.

Meanwhile, the rest of the CompTrain team are seeing how far they can throw rocks into the lake. Not bad for a morning’s training, right?

CrossFit Training at Cape Cod

In the second episode of their Games Training vlog, the CompTrain team are at Cape Cod, biking hard and flipping tires.

Out of the four CompTrain athletes featured in the vlogs, only three will be heading to the CrossFit Games in Madison. Unfortunately Sam Kwant, 2020’s Second Fittest Man on Earth, had a disappointing finish at the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge Semifinal due to a years long battle with chronic illness. He came 14th overall.

Chandler Smith qualified for the Games by coming in second at the Granite Games right behind Scott Panchik. Amanda Barnhart qualified at the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge after coming 4th overall, and Katrin Davidsdottir qualified by coming third at the CrossFit German Throwdown.
