The 2020 CrossFit Games have been split into two stages following the global pandemic. The first stage, which only includes 30 individual male and female competitors, will be held online. Athletes qualified to compete in this stage are those who finished within the Top 20 worldwide in the Open and the 10 Sanctional winners of the season (the remaining 18 were cancelled).

Stage 1 of the CrossFit Games is set to start on September 18 and last two to three days.

The 30 qualified men and 30 qualified women will compete from their chosen locations around the world to earn one of the ten slots available at the in-person finals, five for the men and 5 for the women. The in-person finals, to determine the Fittest Woman and Man on Earth, will be held in Northern California the week of October 19-25.

No more details have been released, in part to keep athlete in the dark and not give them too much opportunity to pre-test the workouts. CrossFit announced the online competition will be live-streamed.
